What are affirmations?
Affirmations are phrases / sentences containing words designed to help you think and live to your potential. How can simple words determine how we live? If we think about it, our mind runs on thoughts. How do we know what we are thinking? By our thoughts. How we feel? From our thoughts. Of course feelings can manifest through sensations and symptoms in the body as well. But the core is at the thought level. When someone asks you “what’s on your mind?” You see what thoughts are playing in your mind. Now, how do we communicate those thoughts to others? Through words! Either verbally or in writing (and typing).
In any given moment of the day, there could be positive thoughts and negative thoughts running through our mind. What determines these thoughts? We all start off life full of positive, empowered thoughts. Radiating happiness, love and acceptance. Gradually through the experiences of life, we accumulate thoughts and beliefs which don’t help us. For example, a parent or teacher saying “you are useless” or “you will never succeed” or you may have had a heartbreak and got stuck with a belief that you don’t deserve to be loved. These thoughts continue to run in your mind like a virus. Until you allow it to dwell there, it will attract experiences to justify the belief, each time reinforcing it.
By identifying the virus thought, you can then deal with it through affirmations. For example, you may have an underlying belief somewhere that life is a struggle, that you cannot succeed without fighting. You can use the simple affirmation: “I sail through life easily and effortlessly” or “life is easy and effortless.” You can choose what works best for you. You can repeat this simple phrase any time throughout the day. Ideally, the minimum should be 21 times for 21 days. This new thought then begins to override the virus thought and eventually wipes it out altogether. Virus thought gone. No more experiences of life being a struggle. Smooth sailing!
In some cases we are not consciously aware of the actual virus thoughts – they could be hidden deep in the subconscious mind. We may only be aware of a block in life. For example, not being able to progress in career, depression, relationship issues, etc… We can use various methods to trace the thought / belief and work on it.
